Discuss the Challenges and Opportunities with Today’s Corporate
Relocation Marketplace
NY,
NY-
June 4,
2008—Manhattan’s New York Athletic Club hosted more than 100 members
and guests of the Tri-State Relocation Services (TRS) group at their
annual Business Development Summit. It was a full day of educational
sessions led by some of the most recognized and knowledgeable
professionals in the industry, each of whom shared their observations
and insights in today’s corporate relocation marketplace.
The day began with Worldwide ERC’s CEO Cris Collie who gave a keynote
“State of the Union” address about the challenges and opportunities
prevalent in today’s corporate relocation industry. Cris is retiring
from ERC, the industry’s association, which he has led for 36 years,
where he oversaw growth from a 300-member U.S.-centric organization to
a global entity of more than 13,000 members who hail from 65
countries. TRS bestowed a gift on Cris after his talk for his many
contributions to the industry. Joe Benevides, Senior Vice President of
Global Relocation Services for Paragon Relocation and 2008 President
of Worldwide ERC gave his “New Dynamics in the Relocation Industry”
presentation, focusing on factors that will usher in new business
solutions. “Both sessions were so full of powerful information the
day was worth attending for just them” stated Claire Andia of AFR.
Intercultural expert, Jack Keogh of Keogh Associates, presented a talk
titled “Do SWOT the Small Stuff - Tactics for Challenging Times”.
where he discussed the need to redefine and focus one’s business
practices for more effective global leadership.
Because the relocation industry works so closely with career
development of corporate America’s talented executives, TRS arranged
for a panel discussion to discuss recruitment and retention
initiatives within the industry. A panel of experts featured Scott
Craighead, General Manager, Americas with Bluesky Executive Search;
Cynthia Cross, Regional Manager of Global Mobility Services with
Diageo N.A.;
John Sculley, Vice President, Managing Director of RIS Consulting;
and moderator, Christine Haney, Vice President, Business Development &
Relocation Services with Prudential Douglas Elliman. “We were very
lucky to secure such great resources for this panel discussion,”
stated Christine Haney of Prudential Douglas Elliman and
TRS Board member.
Jim Brown, an economist with the New York State Department of Labor,
then gave a presentation which addressed the current trends and market
conditions of New York City’s job market and how they are applicable
to the relocation industry. “His talk was truly of value to me and my
associates; he was so knowledgeable” stated Jane McWilliams of
Burgdorff ERA and TRS Board member.
Jim Simon, CEO of Gibraltar Global Group, spoke about the relationship
between relocation programs, service, delivery and pricing in his
“The Decline & Rebirth of the Relocation Industry” talk.
John Heithaus, Chief Customer Officer of Orion Mobility, ended the day
with his “Technology Implications for Relocation Programs”
presentation. Mr. Heithaus showed how the internet has changed the
face of the relocation business and how the four generations in
today’s workforce handle business differently. “I was impressed by
the honesty and optimism these industry leaders had about their
profession and the creative solutions proffered to help the industry
succeed” observed National Foreign Trade Council’s VP, Human
Resources, Bill Sheridan.
